The steering group that produced the delivery plan highlighted three particular issues, which it feels should be addressed urgently by the Scottish government: access to aids, equipment and adaptations to housing; the additional, and sometimes hidden costs, that are associated with specialist health conditions such as travel, accommodation and child care; and the pressures faced by families coping with a child or young person with serious or chronic health problems.

The recommendations made are that the Scottish government should review the process for the provision of aids, adaptations and equipment for children and young people with specialist health needs, and should consider the additional cost implications for children, young people and their families that arise from dealing with complex health conditions.
