Justice minister Maria Eagle last week revealed figures showing the number of young people aged 15 to 17 who had self-harmed in each young offender institution (YOI) since 2003. The statistics show there were 850 cases of self-harm in the 27 YOIs in 2003, rising to 994 the following year.
