Research from the British Education Suppliers Association (BESA) found independent primaries, or preparatory schools, allocated on average £240 a year for each pupil, compared to just £135 at state primaries. Independent secondary schools, or senior schools, also spent more on pupil resources, dedicating almost £280 to resources for each pupil annually, on average £100 more than state secondary schools.
