The group has timed its appeal to coincide with Fostering Fortnight, which runs from 12 to 25 May.

Susan Cotton, fostering manager at the charity, said: "There are so many misconceptions out there about fostering, which can sometimes lead to people not coming forward as carers.

"People don't realise that fostering is a professional career attracting fees and allowances to reflect the importance of their role as key supporters of young people."
