Employment opportunities

We achieve our mission through the delivery of a range of programmes and services:

  • Helpline and family support service providing information, advice and
support to disabled children, young people, their parents and carers
  • Mobility equipment provision and maintenance service to aid independent
movement and greater levels of personal independence
  • Work-related learning services providing access to employment, life skills development and greater independence.

We provide mobility equipment to children and young people with disabilities across the UK up to the age of 26. In addition, we provide maintenance grants and support services including a national helpline for children, parents and carers.

Our work-related learning services offer work experience opportunities and training to young people (aged 14 to 26) with learning difficulties and/or -disabilities from schools, colleges and other statutory and voluntary organisations in north, east and central London. We aim to increase personal independence, improve employment opportunities and offer alternative career paths by allowing young people to discover and develop their abilities, fulfil educational and training goals and gain practical experience of a working environment.

Employment opportunities include:

  • Family liaison officers (mobility provision)
  • Learning support assistants and other support staff (drivers and chaperones,
    personal assistants)
  • Outreach officers working in educational situations.

We also have a diverse team of fundraisers and a corporate services department including HR, IT and finance.

Employment policy

We pride ourselves on having a full range of employment policies that are regularly reviewed and immediately updated for new legislation. In particular, we have comprehensive policies on recruitment, equal opportunities, health and safety and data protection.

We wish to ensure that effective policies are developed to end discrimination, that real progress towards the goal of achieving equal opportunities is made and that this progress is periodically monitored. We intend that all our processes should be fair and that everyone be treated equally and helpfully.

Key partnerships

We work closely with a range of health professionals including occupational and physiotherapists, as well as other health and voluntary sector professionals. We also have partnerships with special and mainstream schools, further education
colleges, employment and social services (including the Connexions service) as well as other disability and voluntary sector groups.

Training and career development

We have a detailed training and development policy and all such training is discussed and agreed via our appraisal system. In addition, we ensure that it is relevant to and supports our five-year strategic plan objectives and appropriate feedback is received following any training carried out.

All employees or volunteers from disadvantaged groups are provided with additional training and support as identified from the appraisals system to achieve equality of opportunity within the organisation.

Salary and benefits

All staff receive a generous holiday and sick pay package. In addition, we offer
staff the opportunity to join the trust's personal pension scheme to which an employer's contribution is made.
