The event included arts and crafts, a bug hunt, body painting and sensory play. The centre was officially opened on 13 July by Gateshead mayor Councillor Maureen Chaplin, who also unveiled an artwork featuring local children's handprints and pictures. The specially designed centre will offer a range of services to families including information, health and support services. Local mum Zoe Robinson, who has a three-year-old daughter, said: "Having a centre like this on the doorstep is a godsend."
