Black housing association Ujima Housing Group last week launched a social enterprise to encourage young people in its homes to get into education and training. Billed as “a hand up, not a hand out”, the project will run in the London boroughs of Lambeth, Greenwich, Brent, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham. It will offer young black people work placements and apprenticeships. It is also teaming up with local academies to help get its young tenants back into education.
